THESE ARE THINGS I REMEMBER ABOUT NEW ORLEANS

The food. The people. Musicians on Franco Square.

Seeing Bob Marley and the Whalers at the Warehouse.

The parks. People partying in their garages.

The New Orleans zoo. The bridge going over the Ponchatrain.

The truck stop in Slidell. The Mardi Gras.

The Riverfront. Shotgun houses. Paddleboats

at night from the woods in St. Francis.

The cemetary. Voudun. Cajuns. Gumbo.

Jumbalaya. Humidity. Mounties.

The Blues Festival. B.B. King. Wasting away

in Margaritaville. A dog named Rebel.

A failed job teaching. The sky. Metaire.

Poor folks. Balconies. Trinkets. Thugs.

Tangled up in Blue. The water, yes.

It was a different time then.

I was young, and never knew it would be gone

forever.
